Jelly of my Jellies

I am not one to jump on the 'trend' bandwagon. I am all for a good trend but I don't join in on a whim. I am not saying I'm not in to fashion that is in fashion, I just often find that 'trends' usually are better in my head than on my body. So I was quite surprised buy my own actions when I found myself whole heatedly jumping on board this one.

I must say, for such a fashion savvy city Melbourne has surprised me. I read an article in Grazia this week and these shoes are the most googled item to shop for in Melbourne. Previously appropriate for those under 12, the humble jelly sandal is having a massive moment. I mean massive to the point where I was ordering my clear glitter pair of Jellybeans and was notified that due to the massive demand, all styles were on back order and were to be expected to ship out mid December...a three week wait. A three week wait for a pair of plastic sandals, and I thought that was completely appropriate.

Not to be satisfied with one pair, on my lunch break 4 days after I ordered online. I walked past Dakota 501 on Chapel St, decided to pop in to say 'hi' to a friend. Came out with a hot pink pair of jellies. So not only have I joined the crazy bunch of 20 somethings that feel it is an appropriate fashion statement to wear shoes originally destined for children. I now have multiple options to choose from when I get dressed in the morning. While I know many will judge, boys will cringe, I will smile as I reminisce my childhood and rock my jellies with a grown up twist.

We weren’t lying when we told you our New York Fashion Week adventures were filled with some serious games of hide and go ‘chic’. We came, we definitely saw, and whole-heartedly conquered. Today, by way of Russia, we bring you inside the portable closet of Miroslava Duma, the super glam former Harper’s Bazaar Russia editor and current freelance writer. Our on-the-go trio greeted her inside her room at The Plaza, and when she opened the door, the next few hours were filled with one incredibly tiny and sophisticated woman, whose style we’ve always adored (and clearly so does Tommy Ton, Garance Doré and Scott Schuman). As a lover of Russian literature and spending downtime in Majorca, Duma frequently collaborates with magazines like OK, Tatler, and Glamour and not only is she an international fashion icon (we die for her Chloé dress she’s rocking in her photo), but she’s got the smarts to back up her good looks too – as she’s the founder of Buro 24/7, a killer style website that is gaining more and more momentum with every post that’s published. We found lots of glam pieces from Tommy Hilfiger Collection (our new obsession), killer jewels from Dannijo and Marni (she loves nothing more than a statement making necklace), a sick pair of Acne leather overalls and a vintage Chanel backpack that we’re bee lining to eBay to try and find. Her essential beauty tip is hydrating all day with bottles upon bottles of water, and Mira (as she’s called by her friends) considers designer Vika Gazinskaya one of her closest pals. But, it’s her Timberland kicks, a first we’ve seen in our thousands of photos snapped, that made us fall head over (rubber) heels for our newfound friend.

 I´ve bought this CHANEL backpack at resurrection in NY about 5 years ago and I love it because it is unique and I haven't seen the same anywhere else.

 These Acne overalls are so cool. I love the bordeaux colour and the quality of leather is great.

 I am really into Casio watches. I used to love Rolex, Cartier, etc. Now its either casio or nothing. They are light, cool and funky.Sweatshirt, Kira Plastinina x Buro 24/7

Alaia shoes have very high heels which is good for me since I am so tiny. Plus, his shoes are always very cool, stylish and most importantly- very comfortable.

D.I.Y

I have been lusting after these glitter Miu Miu's ever since they came in to stores last year, really it doesn't get much better than a pair of glitter sneakers!

But as glittery and wonderful as they are, $800 for a pair of sneakers is pushing it. That was not going to stop me from owning a pair, so I figured if I wasn't prepared to part with the money I would get my D.I.Y on and make my own.

Hello google, where I stumbled across this blog Honestly WTF and the dream of glittery sneakers soon became a reality.

I swapped the Vans for a pair of Converse, as they are my sneaker of choice...5 pairs, obsessed? The tutorial on Honestly WTF is really good, easy to follow and the final result is amazing. I changed my shoe choice, glitter colour and had to guess my glitter/glue ratio. I used 1/2 a cup of glue and just under 1/2 a cup of glitter. Piling on the layers...8 layers of glue and glitter all up. I struggled a bit trying to get my crystals online, so I went down to my local dance shop and I was like a kid in a lolly store! So many options, colours, sizes and shapes! The final product is amazing, every girl needs some glittery goodness in her life!
