There are some things in life that one just needs, I need water, sleep, friends, food and these boots. No, I do not think it is ridiculous putting these boots in the same league as food and water. There are just some things the heart aches for. These boots are it, they are the be all and end all of shoe porn. I lust for them from afar as I am yet to tempt myself with trying them on. That day will come, and I feel it fast approaching. A boot does not make you feel fat, it does not insult you, it will always fit, it will love you back. Balenciaga, I need you in my life.

How you like me now?

It’s that time of year again, where the days seem to just get away from you. You become so busy and preoccupied with Christmas related parties, dinners, shopping, planning that it is the 18^th of December and I can’t remember leaving November. It is also the time of year where we often find ourselves reminiscing on the past 12months. What we did (who we did…what we brought), what we didn’t do (what we didn’t buy…who we didn’t do…who we shouldn’t of) numerous humorous stories, adventures and the like.

We also start to think about those BIG New Year’s resolutions, you know the ones. We always have the best intentions of keeping them but most of us are lucky to last the week. You have the token ones along the lines of…will lose weight, will go to the gym more, will be more healthy, will be happier, will be nicer, will travel more, will buy more shoes, will find and buy those damn Balenciaga boots, will find a rich young gentleman who will fall head over heels in love with me etc. I have decided to break my traditional mould this year.  A week or so ago I was not so nicely informed that ‘I over think like a girl’. Well no shit captain obvious…. Maybe because I AM a girl?!

Anyway, no need to go into the nitty gritty of said conversation, let’s just say that it made me think. And GOSH being a girl is HARD work! All that over thinking, over analysing, reading in to things, self-doubt, wondering if we should have done this or we should have done that, meticulously planning outfits, worrying if our bums look big in this or if our hair is too flat. It is ridiculous, it is unnecessary, we are all intelligent women, yet still, I am sure most of us partake in this useless behaviour.

So instead of trying to get the perfect hair or that perky bum (ok I will still be working on my bum!) I have decided that this year’s New Year’s resolution is to be more like a boy. Simple, not in the gross way, I have no desire to forgo my daily showers thank you very much. But more along the lines of when a guy doesn’t call, I will not automatically jump to the conclusion that it is because I must be hideous. I will be rational and not even think about it, I will not read in to text messages, I will not analyse how long it takes to get a reply, I will not read in to a casual ‘Lets hang out again’… Girls, when he says 'lets hang out' he is not thinking about how many children you both will have when you are married, really, NO he isn’t!

I will be more like a boy, I will forget that I have a phone, I will not care if the girl at the bar has my dress on, I will casually agree to see people so they feel like they can’t tie me down. Most of all, I will not cry over spilt milk! I will not doubt myself, I will not put myself down and I will just act in that generally ‘I don’t give a fuck’ way boys have perfected. It’s a flawless plan really, I don’t know why I haven’t thought of it sooner? I’ll keep you posted on how it goes, fingers crossed I get through the first week! Wish me luck!

I am not one to jump on the 'trend' bandwagon. I am all for a good trend but I don't join in on a whim. I am not saying I'm not in to fashion that is in fashion, I just often find that 'trends' usually are better in my head than on my body. So I was quite surprised buy my own actions when I found myself whole heatedly jumping on board this one.

I must say, for such a fashion savvy city Melbourne has surprised me. I read an article in Grazia this week and these shoes are the most googled item to shop for in Melbourne. Previously appropriate for those under 12, the humble jelly sandal is having a massive moment. I mean massive to the point where I was ordering my clear glitter pair of Jellybeans and was notified that due to the massive demand, all styles were on back order and were to be expected to ship out mid December...a three week wait. A three week wait for a pair of plastic sandals, and I thought that was completely appropriate.

Not to be satisfied with one pair, on my lunch break 4 days after I ordered online. I walked past Dakota 501 on Chapel St, decided to pop in to say 'hi' to a friend. Came out with a hot pink pair of jellies. So not only have I joined the crazy bunch of 20 somethings that feel it is an appropriate fashion statement to wear shoes originally destined for children. I now have multiple options to choose from when I get dressed in the morning. While I know many will judge, boys will cringe, I will smile as I reminisce my childhood and rock my jellies with a grown up twist.

4th and Bleeker

There are many blogs that I love, as I am sure you are all aware one of those is the Man Repeller another is 4th and Bleeker. Since discovering 4th and Bleeker by accident about 12 months ago I have fallen in love and become completely obsessed with Alexandra Spencer and her brand of self portraiture.

 

Is there nothing this woman can not do? Her whimsical and enchanting self portraits, her collaborations with Luv AJ and Harpers Bazaar's Style Network along with her beautiful blog posts. 4th and Bleeker is more than a personal style blog, Alexandra's photographs are beautiful, they are captivating and all tell a story, it's so easy to create a blog with some 'selfies' but 4th and Bleeker goes far beyond that.

 

This is one woman whose brain I would love to pick about all things fashion, art, and photography...
